Visit to the Al Manara Water Treatment Plant

On the 28th of February 2013, H.E. Susan Blankhart and the ambassadors of Malaysia and South Africa visited Al Manara for a guided tour around the premises.

The Al Manara Water Treatment Plant in Omdurman is a good example of high-class technology, efficient management, a profitable business plan, and good international cooperation between various donors. The Netherlands, South Africa, and Malaysia contributed in total 94 million US dollars to the construction and maintenance of the Al Manara Water Treatment Plant. The Netherlands grant contribution toward this project was more than Euro $ 24.3 mln.  in addition to a concessional loan of Euro 23.1 mln. Now a couple of years down the road, the plant is operating and has proven its efficiency and effectiveness in servicing almost half a million residents in and outside Omdurman.
